#SleeptoPerform Series: Sleep and Weight Loss

by

In this third video in the #SleeptoPerform series I discuss the relationship between sleep and sleep deprivation on weight loss and hormones that influence fat burning and calorie intake. The research surrounding sleep deprivation and the negative metabolic milieu that occurs as a result is growing day by day. I think that the evidence is to the point that we cannot ignore the relationship between sleep and a healthy body weight. Unfortunately technology, social media, and the drive to constantly be connected is driving most people to get less sleep.

If you are serious about losing weight, then you need to be serious about your sleep.

In the we’ll look at the following hormones and cytokines and how they are influenced by inadequate sleep:

  • Leptin
  • Ghrelin
  • IL-6
