Naked Nutrition Weekly Vol. 1

Posted by Mike Roussell on Friday, October 5th, 2007

Welcome to the 1st volume of Naked Nutrition Weekly. I know in the past that my free newsletters have been far from regular but I have recently sought out a mentor in this area and have devised a plan for a consistent schedule with great content for you. Every Friday you will receive a new edition of Naked Nutrition Weekly via email (or you can just visit MikeRoussell.com). In addition on the 1st of every month you will received Naked Nutrition Newsletter. The Naked Nutrition Newsletter will be available in text and pdf format. Those of you that have been long time subscribers know that I used to have a pdf newsletter (Max-Out Magazine). Because people liked the pdf so much I’ll be going back to that format so you can print out the newsletter and read it when ever you want. Now on to the Naked Nutrition Weekly Vol. 1.

Naked Nutrition Blog
Here is a run down all what has been going on at the Naked Nutrition Blog this week.

Targeted Fat Loss?? Oh Please - Find out the real scoop on visceral fat and what you can do to get rid of it before it ruins your health. Note: You may be surprised that to find out that other diet gurus are lying about this.

Are Your Testosterone Levels Killing You? - Join me as I take a look at new research regarding the effects of low testosterone on mortality.

Why Protein is So Cool - Did you know that protein stimulates hormones that promote fat burning? Pretty cool stuff. Make sure to check this entry out.

What I’m Eating
This week I branched out and picked up a lot more seafood at the grocery store than I normally do (I’m kind of getting tired of chicken). In my freezer I have talipia, salmon, cod, and orange roughy. Fish cook-up in almost half the time as chicken. 400 degrees for only 10-12 minutes and you are ready to go. If you are stuck in nutritional rut and can’t imagine sucking down one more chicken breast opt for fish next time you go to the store.

Nutrition News - Fat Cells Love Lower Carb Diets

There is some really cool nutritional research going on that is looking at how our fat cells respond to dietary changes. A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that when you lower your carb (~30% of total calories) certain genes associated with energy metabolism function in the same manner as if you were in a caloric deficit and losing weight. I think this is just the beginning of looking at how genes in various parts of our body respond to different macronutrients (protein, carbs, fats). Pretty cool stuff. Check out the abstract of the study here.
